Four AC Problems That Require An AC Repair Technician

Posted on

There are several types of air conditioning problems that you'll want to address right away. Otherwise, you might see more severe problems with your air conditioning unit down the road. Many of these problems will require that you seek help from an air conditioning repair specialist.

1. Leaking Air Ducts

Your air ducts transport conditioned air throughout your home. However, these ducts can develop leaks as a result of holes, tears and broken joints. The cool air then seeps into your attic and is not cooling your home. The leaks cause your AC to work harder, which will increase your energy bills and will also lead to your AC breaking down sooner, leading to an expensive repair.

You'll be able to determine that there is something wrong with your ducts when your energy bills rise but your usage is the same. In this case, you'll need an air conditioning repair technician to inspect and repair your air ducts.

2. Frozen Evaporator Coils

If your evaporator coils are frozen, this can be another reason why your air conditioning unit is not cooling properly. In this case, you'll need to find out the cause of the frozen coils. You could have a bad motor, and you'll need to have it serviced by air conditioning repair technicians.

Other issues that can lead to a frozen evaporator coil include a dirty coil and a blocked return air grille. If these problems are not solved, a layer of ice will form on the coil and it will stop working properly. It may even entirely shut down your home system.

3. Leaking Refrigerant

Your air conditioner relies on a coolant to operate. However, if your AC has a refrigerant leak, this will cause the AC to be unable to chill the air. You might notice warm air exiting from the registers or vents. Your system will have to work harder to cool your home, and it will also be leaking harmful chemicals outside. Repairing the refrigerant leak will require the help of an air conditioning repair technician.

4. A Defective Fan

Your air conditioning fan might break down and may prevent your AC from circulating chilled air into your home. When this happens, you'll need to have the fan repaired or replaced by an air conditioning technician. The blowers push air through the evaporator coils and expel warm air away from your home. Without the fans, your air conditioner will not be able to function properly.
